Have a look at the slides from our recent training on Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract Maths. These methods really help children to understand numbers before doing written methods to find something out. It means that, unlike some of us when we were at school, we make sure all children 'get it' before doing it. This builds confidence and allows children to deal with much harder maths with ease.
We use 'AfL' (Assessment for Learning) techniques to find out what children know so we can move their learning off effectively and keep them engaged. Here are some of the strategies we use and why.
